In rotating shafts (like those in motors, fans, or wheels), a plain bush bearing provides smooth support and alignment.
It absorbs radial and sometimes axial loads, allowing the shaft to spin freely.
Low-Speed Rotating Applications:
Ideal for low to moderate speeds where very high precision isn't needed.
Examples: agricultural machinery, small electric motors, conveyor belts.
Oscillating Motion:
In joints that swing back and forth (like hinges or robotic arm pivots), plain bush bearings handle repeated motion without needing rolling elements (like balls or rollers).
Example: suspension linkages in vehicles.
Heavy Load, Low Speed:
Since they have a larger surface area contact, they are excellent at bearing heavy loads where speed is not extreme.
Example: hydraulic cylinders, construction equipment joints.
Self-Lubricating or Maintenance-Free Designs:
In mechanisms where regular maintenance is hard, plain bush bearings can be made of self-lubricating materials (like sintered bronze or polymers filled with lubricants).
Corrosive or Dirty Environments:
Unlike rolling bearings, plain bush bearings can tolerate dust, dirt, and chemicals better.
Example: marine equipment, food processing machines (with specific materials).
